Starting the day with real beef burgers from Boulevard hamburger located at Quezon Boulevard, Quiapo won’t hurt you and definitely not your wallet. The most delicious burgers at its price ranging from 17 to 26 pesos are found here. The patties there are all home made. The super small 2 meters wide burger stop has been around the metro for almost three decades now.
Taking a few steps more will lead you to Cho Nam Panciteria. Eating there will take you to a trip down Memory Lane for they have this bulky metal cash register. Cho Nam Panciteria offers a variety of rice toppings. They are boasting their Lechon Rice, Chopsuey Rice and Beef Rice which are all reasonably priced below a hundred pesos. It has one of the most sumptuous pancit canton and pancit miki bihon in town. These panciteria has co-existed with the first and famous Ma Mon Luk in Quiapo.
Another food stop you don’t want to miss when you’re in the heart of Manila is the Globe Lumpia House. This Lumpia house is so small that it can only accommodate 20 persons at time. Surely, this proves that not only good things come in small packages for now we know that delicious things come in small packages too.
It was back in 1957 when this Lumpia House opened. It still occupies the same spot it where it was originally some 51 years ago. It was named Globe Lumpia House for it was once located inside the Globe Theater that has been closed for years now.
Lumpia is the Philippine’s equivalent to the Chinese’s spring rolls. The first ever lumpia sold there was at 35 centavos and now each is sold at 17 pesos.
Lumpia- globe style is stuffed with grounded peanuts, ubod( a vegetable harvested from the inner core and growing bud of a certain palm tree), loads of garlic and fresh lettuce. It is served with caramel sauce that is sweetened just right with every bite.
Once you have gone to these food stops there is no doubt that you would see Quiapo with a whole new perspective!
Don't worry it's never too late to grab a bite!Yum! Yum! Yum!
