Beauty comes in different shapes and sizes and so does art.
We were at the mall, just another bonding moment for friends. Then, we came across this art exhibit at the Mega Atrium. There were paintings which used the violin as its canvas. They were displayed in such a way that from afar it would seem like they were floating violins. We don’t play the violin but I love violin music.
We went inside the exhibit hall and we were surprised to see paintings of bigger women this time, not on the violin but on the usual canvas. Like me, my friend is a plus size girl too. So were trying to look at the bodies of the models on the paintings whether they are clothed or not. Honestly, I was reminded of myself. It was as if there was a mirror in front of me.
It was my first time and my friend’s as well to go to a free art exhibit. Another surprise came to us when the artist himself came to us and even shook our hands. He told us that he was a ‘fat fetish’. He loves painting women like us. It was weird enough that we saw paintings of bigger women and it was even weirder when he approached us.
We were even invited to see the special paintings that were not yet part of the exhibit and so we did. We were shown more paintings and it bothered me that all paintings seem to be dark. Dark hues dominated the canvas though the artist seemed like not a dark person but a fun person actually. Well, I really know nothing about artists.
The small conversation about the paintings ended quickly and my friend and I decided to leave and when we were already far from the exhibit, that was when I realized that I still have an ‘art article’ to write.
Sighs. I could have had a longer conversation with that artist. Nonetheless, it was already enough that I was proven that art really is something unpredictable and it really comes in different shapes and sizes.
